FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about virtual skin assessments for Alberta residents.

Is this service covered by Alberta Health Care?

Yes. Virtual consultations are provided by licensed Alberta physicians and are covered by Alberta Health for eligible Alberta residents with a valid health card.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required. Eligible Alberta residents can submit their skin concern directly through Virtual Derm Clinic.

Will I be seeing a dermatologist?

No. Assessments are performed by CPSA-licensed Alberta physicians with experience in skin care. If needed, you may be referred to a dermatologist or another specialist for further evaluation.

What skin concerns can be assessed virtually?

Common concerns may include acne, eczema, rosacea, rashes, psoriasis, suspicious moles, skin infections, medication refills, and other non-emergency skin concerns.

How does the process work?

Patients submit a secure intake form with details about their concern. Photos may be requested to help the physician review the issue. The physician then provides recommendations, treatment options, or referral guidance when appropriate.

Can prescriptions be provided?

If medically appropriate, a prescription may be sent to your pharmacy. Prescriptions are only provided when appropriate after physician assessment.

How quickly will I hear back?

Most patients receive a response within 1–3 business days, depending on clinic volume and the nature of the concern.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Patient information is submitted through secure systems designed to protect privacy and confidentiality.

What happens if I need an in-person assessment?

If an in-person evaluation is necessary, the physician will provide guidance regarding next steps, including referral recommendations where appropriate.

Is this an emergency service?

No. Virtual Derm Clinic is not an emergency service and is not intended for urgent or life-threatening medical concerns. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or seek immediate care.
